Beautiful Astro Blaster arcade machine. Somewhat rare machine comparatively. I have not seen another in my region. Original cabinet has been repaired and restored with a custom paint job and trim that pics up on the marquee colors. Also added diamond dust flake to the yellow which really pops in the right light, but hard to photograph. Looks a lot sharper than the original wood paneling of the cabinet. Everything on the cabinet has been fixed up, from coin door repair and paint, control panel sanded clean, painted and a new overlay, wood repair and lock bar holes filled, bolt heads painted. Original marquee in nice condition. Original monitor bezel has been matted to foam board to renew its shape. Really beautiful sample of this machine cosmetically and it does work.
The Bad: Will need some minor electronic servicing which I cannot provide. Wells Garner monitor likely need a cap kit, as a vertical line of distortion crawls through the screen horizontally until the unit (and the capacitors) warm up and it stabilizes. Not too difficult if you have the correct equipment. Also there is an audio issue - what seems to me to be an audio sample stuck on - like an asteroid or explosion sound - which gives the machine a constant low rumble sound beneath any other sound effects. Again likely the replacement of a capacitor or transistor to the sound board. Again, beyond my capacity to diagnose properly. All of this combines to an intermittent start until she warms up.
Neat gameplay. A Galaga-like shooter with fuel and heat management, variety of enemy ships, hidden bonuses, and docking for refueling.
So a beautiful machine that could truly be a focal point and one of the finest examples of the game with some service.
